Chariots of Hope is a unique and amazing organization that has achieved far-reaching successes. Since its inception in 1998, we have collected, repaired and shipped hundreds of wheelchairs to needy individuals around the world. We continue to collect used wheelchairs and expand our distribution network through word of mouth, our website, radio, television, and news articles.
This year, our "friendship base" and organizational volunteers have participated in record number with cash donations and in-kind support. As our organization becomes more understood within the community, our neighbors have rallied behind us.
One story that comes immediately to mind is a young American boy living with his family stationed in Germany. He needed to select a meaningful project to submit for his Eagle Scout distinction. He decided that for his project, he would find some way to give 8 wheelchairs to 8 orphans in Hungary. He began his research via the Internet. He found the Chariots of Hope website and requested 8 wheelchairs. He worked with Chariots of Hope and Fed Ex to have the wheelchairs delivered by Thanksgiving. This Thanksgiving the dreams of 8 children came true with wheelchairs from Chariots of Hope!
As Chariots of Hope grows, so do the opportunities. This past summer Chariots of Hope introduced Sled Hockey into the State of Connecticut. Sled Hockey is hockey for the physically challenged; a sport that allows those with physical limitations the ability to play hockey. Chariots partnered with the Connecticut WolfPack, the Greater Hartford Jaycees and the Westminster School in Simsbury, CT to bring this sport to life for children as well as adults.
