The twelve annual 1000 Wheels Day was held June 5, 2010. This was the most successful collection event Chariots of Hope has ever had. 185 chairs were collected at all the State Police Barracks and Bickford Healthcare Center in Windsor Locks.
The event this year was changed to the first Saturday of June and the time was shortened by an hour from 10am-2pm. Jim Reed from Kool 101 broadcasted live once again at the Montville Barracks. It was a bright but humid day. The rain held off until the late afternoon but just in time for volunteers that were collecting the chairs.
Next year it is scheduled for June 4, 2011. Any manual folding wheelchair may be dropped off shortly before the event. Cash donations for repair and distribution costs are also encouraged.
We are an all volunteer organization and always looking for new friends. Any amount of time you can give is always appreciated no matter how small. Splitting the day at a Barrack or sharing the time and making new friends.
Do you have a truck? Picking up chairs and returning them to the garage in Bloomfield is extremely helpful during this event. We also receive requests for chair pick ups through out the year do you have a couple of hours a month to help?
